Host Families and Family Day
Students come to Kul IN for a full 8-hour program every day except for Sunday, which is family day. Each day during the evening and on family day, students spend time with their host family. On most evenings, students will receive tasks to complete with their host families. These tasks help students start a conversation with their host family, and get them involved in the family’s everyday routine. On family day, students spend the day with their host family doing whatever the host family has planned for the day. Spending time with the host family is extremely important as it naturally enhances language development and immerses students in the Croatian culture and lifestyle.
Students are asked to complete an information sheet about themselves in order to help us match families and students as closely as possible. These sheets need to be received by Kul IN at least 6 weeks before the course begins.
Safety and Insurance
The safety of our students is of the utmost importance to us. During all trips and activities, our students are guided by a tour guide and an instructor-chaperone, and we take every precaution that students stay safe. Students will never be forced to do an activity outside of their comfort zone.
Class sizes are kept small so that each student can receive personal attention while studying, and to ensure safer trips and activities. Sisak is a small and safe city with kind local people, and any potential problems are reported immediately and taken seriously. Students under the age of 16 never travel alone during the program.
Host families are carefully selected by Kul IN Language Academy, and we personally visit each home to ensure that students will be safe and comfortable, and that they have necessary privacy. Host families provide full-board accommodation for students, and they are responsible for the safe transport of students to and from Kul IN. On move-in day, parents of young students are invited to visit Kul IN and meet the host family that their child will be staying with. Although host families are asked to only speak Croatian with students, all host families also speak English in the event of an emergency.
We do strongly suggest that students have travel insurance in the event of an accident.
